What to Do in Barcelona on a Rainy Day (2026)
Barcelona sells itself on sunshine, which is exactly why the city goes slightly feral when it rains. Everyone crowds into the same three museums, the metro smells like wet dog, and the beach plan is dead. The good news: Barcelona quietly has one of Europe's best indoor scenes, and rain is the excuse to use it. Here is the honest guide, sorted by what you are actually in the mood for. One of the venues below is ours, and we say so when we get there.
If you want to be surrounded by art
Rain outside, projections inside: this is the day the immersive venues were made for.
IDEAL Centre d'Arts Digitals (Poblenou). The city's biggest immersive art center, a former cinema where floor-to-ceiling projections wrap a vast hall. The current Tutankhamun exhibition runs in cycles of 20 to 30 minutes, so you can stay as long as the rain lasts. From about 12.50 euros on weekdays to 18.50 on weekends.
Moco Museum (El Born). Warhol, Banksy and digital art rooms in a Gothic palace, next door to the Picasso Museum. Compact enough for an afternoon, photogenic enough that the grey light outside stops mattering. From about 16 euros.

If you want to make something
A rainy afternoon with your hands busy beats a rainy afternoon of doom scrolling.
Paint and sip. A guided painting session with a drink in hand, 2 to 3 hours, no experience needed, and you leave with a canvas. Several organizers run sessions across the city; the Van Gogh themed nights are the most searched-for format.
Candle making. Choose a scent, pour, decorate, take it home. One of the most booked workshop formats in the city, and the result smells good for weeks after the rain has gone.

If you want to come out feeling better than you went in
A sound bath. Lie down, close your eyes, and let gongs, bowls and spatial audio do the work while rain does its thing outside. SABDA runs sound healing sessions five times a week inside the 360-degree room, from 18 euros; it is the single best rainy-day activity we know, and yes, we are biased.
The contrast option: an ice bath. Counterintuitive on a cold day, which is precisely why it works. Guided, breathwork-led, and the warm feeling afterwards lasts the rest of the afternoon. Sessions run on our patio from 12 euros.
The classics, honestly rated
L'Aquàrium. One of Europe's larger aquariums, with the walk-through shark tunnel. Great with kids, crowded on rainy weekends for exactly that reason. Book ahead and go early.
CosmoCaixa. The science museum locals actually like: a flooded Amazon forest under glass, a geological wall, and enough interactive rooms to lose three hours. Arguably the city's best value indoor ticket.
The markets. Skip a soaked Boqueria elbow-fight and try Mercat de Sant Antoni or Mercat de la Concepció: same product quality, local crowd, and lunch counters where the rain becomes background noise.
The cheat code for someone else's rainy day
